About Me
It can be SO HARD to reach out and ask for help. I am proud of you! I am a believer that the goal of therapy is to get out of therapy. You and your family should feel equipped and have tools to keep your head above the water. I provide in person sessions only and dyadically with one caregiver and one child. Often, I also see siblings and facilitate family therapy as well. I am trained in a specific play therapy called Theraplay® which is an evidence- based practice that focuses on caregiver- child relationships. In the beginning, I will sit down with the caregiver(s) for an intake without the child present. Next is a video recorded assessment followed by a caregiver review of the assessment. That's when we will decide if we want to pursue Theraplay® based activities together. If so, I will guide the caregivers through a play therapy session to know what to expect. I will then begin play therapy with one adult & one child. All sessions are video recorded. Every few sessions will be a caregiver check in. At least one adult will be inside of the therapy room for each appointment. At the caregiver check ins, we will decide what has worked, what goals we still have, review video footage from previous sessions, and talk about next steps. I am also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) which is an evidence- based therapy that holds the premise that the way one thinks, feels, and acts is because of past experiences that taught them to do so. Many people believe that EMDR is just for trauma; however, let's remember that trauma is subjective. Two people can be in the same car accident. One person will be just fine, but the other may not be able to drive for a while. Kids say the most random things that we as adults would never would have guessed. EMDR is based off of memory networks, and kids remember things that we may have forgotten about. I incorporate sand tray and art into our treatment together, and I am also able to provide a Christian perspective if requested. I work with kids 3- 12 years old. I also work with teenagers and adults who want to address trauma utilizing EMDR specifically. My fee is $135 per session. I accept those whose primary insurances are Aetna, Cigna, and UHC. I am able to provide a superbill that you can submit to insurance. I cannot guarantee reimbursement from your insurance. Theraplay® is a registered service mark of The Theraplay® Institute, Chicago, IL, USA.
