Dr. Darra James Murphy

Education & Experience

Darra J Murphy (MB, BCh, BAO, FRACGP, MFamMed, FASPM) is an Irish-born family physician who worked as an Australian country doctor for 25 years, finishing as a Director of Medical Services & Primary Care at a public Regional Health Service. He completed EMDR Institute Basic Training with Sigmund Burzynski and Anthony Smith in 2000 and became an Institute Facilitator in 2010. In 2014, with Sigmund, he co-authored an introductory article on EMDR therapy for the Australian Psychological Society. He commenced training as an EMDR Institute Trainer with Francine Shapiro in 2014 and completed training with Sigmund and Roger Solomon in 2015. As President of the Australian Society for Psychological Medicine (2014-2016) he helped develop and deliver a nationally accredited Skills Training in Focused Psychological Strategies for family physicians. This is a minimum pre-requisite for them to undertake Basic Training in EMDR therapy. Since 2004, he has been in private practice in Melbourne.
