Dr. Jan L Fisher, Ph.D.

EMDR Certified Therapist

Education & Experience

In addition to my private practice, I worked as an Associate Professor for 10 years at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, holding several positions, including Director of Creative Expression, Assistant Dean, Director of Clinical Training, and Chair of the Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology. I taught courses in creative expression, clinical skills, and practicum training. For a number of years, I worked with the Shyness Clinic in Palo Alto and led 6-month cognitive-behavioral therapy groups for overcoming social anxiety and shyness. Trained as a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) instructor, I have studied and practiced in depth several spiritual disciplines, including Zen, Vipassana, and Authentic Movement. My doctoral focus on creative expression and later teaching of it included visual and movement modalities. I have always worked with trauma and incorporate a variety of approaches, including psychodynamics, the expressive arts, and EMDR.
