Joan Smith, MSW

About Me

I am a caring, empathetic, and non-judgemental therapist. I strongly believe you can be empowered to find your own strengths to recognize your value and to learn how to navigate your pain in ways that will allow you to thrive. I would be honoured to help you move toward making the kind of change you require to experience a fulfilling life.

Education & Experience

I have a Master of Social Work degree and have completed my EMDR level l and level ll training. I am a Registered Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience supporting individuals who struggle with trauma, grief, and mental health challenges. Throughout my career, I have worked in various settings such as a women’s shelter, Victim Services, and the hospital emergency department, where I provide crisis, and rauma intervention and psychotherapy. I am also affiliated with the Newmarket Psychotherapy Team. A team of collaborative therapists providing the support that you require and deserve. I am almost exclusively practicing EMDR while also drawing on a strength-based and client-centered approach to help best meet your individual needs.
