Laura Michaels, LPC JD

Preferred Name: Laura

Education & Experience

I have been using EMDR in my private practice for many years and find it to be an extremely powerful modality. I usually couple it with other strategies, tailoring therapy to meet each individual's specific needs and goals. In our sessions, I work with clients to focus on the things we can change and the choices we make, while also understanding and recovering from past disappointments and traumas. From the beginning of my career, I have had a passion for mental health and wellness, first in the non-profit sector and now in the private practice of counseling. Before becoming a professional counselor, I served for 20 years as Executive Director of the Colorado Psychiatric Society, the district branch of the American Psychiatric Association. I also worked at the University of Colorado Depression Center as Director of Public Policy and Administration.
