About Me

Shawn is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Wisconsin. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Psychology at St. Ambrose University and her Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a focus in Addiction Studies, at Lewis University. She has passion for education which led her to pursue a doctorate degree in Counseling Education and Supervision from Governors State University which she completed December 2022. Additionally, Shawn is certified in EMDR therapy, and is an EMDR consultant in training. Shawn is also a full time professor at Adler University teaching in the masters of clinical mental health counseling online program. She has been teaching in higher academia since 2022, and has been in the counseling field since 2017. Shawn has experience in community mental health as a Mental Health Counselor. She also held a position as an Admissions Coordinator at a residential facility where she had extensive experience in clinical assessment with adolescents and adults. She loves providing individual therapy with individuals age 18 and up. She specializes in trauma and has studied childhood sexual abuse extensively as the topic of her dissertation. Additionally, she has experience working with children and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, DUI/Probation, domestic violence, eating disorders, and those struggling with adjustment to change. Shawn’s approach to therapy utilizes a humanistic approach. She is a non-directive clinician who also uses somatic interventions, specifically in her work with trauma and EMDR. She has the ability to connect with her clients quickly by providing genuine, empathetic, and, at times, humorous approaches to therapy. She believes that therapy does not always have to be serious and enjoys laughter with her clients. She prides herself on being able to create a warm, genuine, and safe space for her clients to process life’s difficulties. She values seeing her clients for whom they are and loves to learn more about their story so they can navigate change together. Her goal is to help her clients feel empowered to tackle their struggles and help them find the strength that is inside of them.
