About Me
My name is Shaylyn Forte and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Philadephia, PA. People come to me for help because their existing coping skills aren’t working. They’ve struggled to connect with past therapists and didn’t get the results or relief they were looking for. Perhaps you can relate? If you choose to work together, you’ll find that I am relatable, understanding, and effective. We will work together to identify solutions to your problems based on your personal insight and my clinical expertise. I’ll listen with an empathetic ear and use my personal and professional experience to offer solutions that provide relief. I’ll take an active approach to our sessions by bringing in resources and teaching coping skills to help you succeed in reaching your therapeutic, and life, goals. You’ll be most successful if you are motivated to work on yourself outside of therapy through self-reflection and practicing new skills that are introduced in our sessions. Eventually, you’ll reach a point where you feel empowered to cope with the issues life throws your way. If you feel we'll work well together, I encourage you to reach out! I'm looking forward to getting to know you and learning how I can help you feel better.
Education & Experience
After graduating from The Pennsylvania State University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services, I decided to further my education in pursuit of my ultimate goal- becoming a therapist. I continued with my education at The Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a master's degree in Counselor Education in 2014. My clinical experience includes working in both inpatient and outpatient settings with clients who have anxiety, depression, low self esteem, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, substance use disorders, and eating disorders. Since becoming licensed as a professional counselor in 2017, I have dedicated my practice to helping clients learn how to better manage their anxiety, depression, low self esteem, and feelings related to life transitions. I have a particular affinity for working with adults in their 20s and 30s as they navigate the many life transitions that occur during this time period. I became trained in EMDR in 2022 after recognizing the limitations of other forms of therapy in fostering true healing.
