About Me

As a Systems-trained therapist, I view Mental Health and well-being as meaningfully influenced by our relationships and interactions with others: including but not limited to the family, culture, workplace, and the environment. I also believe that clients are the experts on their own lives. Therefore, my approach to therapy is a collaborative one where I am receptive to additional theoretical orientations and ongoing feedback when partnering with clients. In my work, I utilize a variety of treatment methods to assist each person in addressing their goals for therapy. These methods may include: EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT Skills, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused and Strength-Based interventions. I enjoy working with school-aged children, adolescents and adults. I am experienced with treating issues related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, social skills, and trauma.

Education & Experience

I am a Washington State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LF60442328). I am an alumnus of Pacific Lutheran University, earning my Psychology BA in 2008 and then my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2011. My clinical internship was completed at Auburn Youth Resources in South King County, WA. From there, I went on to work as a mental health therapist in a variety of settings that have included community mental health clinics, hospitals, and correctional facilities. I started my private mental health practice, 'Tara Bates LMFT, PLLC' in March of 2021 where I work with Washington State clients both in person and via Telehealth. I completed my EMDR basic training in October of 2021.
