Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) involves a heightened nervous system response to perceived threats to autonomy, often rooted in anxiety and fear of uncertainty. Understanding the trauma experienced by this population is essential. Adapting EMDR across all 8 phases with collaborative, unscripted, low-demand approaches reduce anxiety, respects autonomy, and supports effective trauma processing for PDA clients and make EMDR accessible to this population.
