This webinar will focus on stabilization as preparatory to Phases 3 and 4 in EMDR. Participants will learn to define stabilization functionally by assessing clients for three main capacities: (1) to know and effectively verbalize their own experiences, (2) to show mastery over shifting internal states and emotions, and (3) to show a tolerance of and readiness for positive emotions and change. Relevant DBT concepts (the Model of Emotions, Emotion Regulation Skills, Pros and Cons, and Willingness, among others) will be applied to the therapeutic task of stabilization. Finally, a toolbox of EMDR-based stabilization procedures will be offered, including the Back of the Head Scale, Constant Installation of Present Orientation to Safety, Calm State, Level of Positive Affect protocol and first basic steps in identifying polarized ego states, among others.
