Online Course
This online course deepens EMDR therapists’ understanding of the modality by situating EMDR more explicitly within a neurobiological and affect-regulation framework, rather than treating it as a primarily procedural intervention. By integrating principles from Compassion-Focused Therapy, attachment theory, and polyvagal-informed regulation, Dr. Derek Farrell helps clinicians better understand why EMDR succeeds or stalls with different clients. The course reframes common clinical challenges—such as blocked processing, repeated dysregulation, or entrenched negative cognitions—as indicators of insufficient access to the soothing system rather than failures of technique, thereby expanding therapists’ conceptualization of case formulation and target selection within EMDR.
