From bestselling authors to celebrities, EMDR therapy has gained increased national attention over the past 30 years. See what public figures are saying about its powerful impact.

Prince Harry

In the Apple TV+ docuseries The Me You Can’t See, Prince Harry participated in a filmed EMDR session to work through trauma and anxiety, especially related to memories of his late mother and the emotional challenges associated with London. He also spoke on Good Morning America about how EMDR has equipped him to face life’s challenges.

“EMDR is always something that I wanted to try … London is a trigger, unfortunately, because of what happened to my mom…For me, therapy has equipped me to be able to take on anything."

Miley Cyrus

In a 2023 interview with British Vogue, Miley Cyrus revealed that she used EMDR therapy extensively to address painful memories and the physical sensations tied to them. She described the process as deeply helpful in her healing.

“I did a lot of EMDR. It’s so helpful. Essentially, you delete the physical sensations associated with these painful memories. The EMDR really helped me.”

Sandra Bullock

Actress and producer Sandra Bullock appeared on Red Table Talk, recounting how she developed PTSD following a 2014 home invasion. She said that discovering EMDR therapy was pivotal for her healing.

“So I discovered something called EMDR, which was the most healing,” she said. But that didn’t mean it was easy to start: “I was so scared to do it.”

Ashley Judd

In a Guardian interview, actress Ashley Judd described returning to EMDR therapy after being traumatized by the media’s publication of images and sensitive details from the scene of her mother Naomi’s death.

“I re‑enrolled myself … just to make sure that my healing was concretized and stout and was going to hold.”

Jameela Jamil

In a candid social media post, actress, writer, and activist Jameela Jamil credited EMDR therapy with saving her life.

“I had a therapy called EMDR that I used for depression, anxiety, eating disorder issues and PTSD, and if you should be lucky enough to access any mental healthcare I would urge you to spend your money on that before ANYTHING else that isn’t a necessity for your life. Saved my life. Love you. ❤️”
