Updated Consultant Standards 2026
Updated consultant standards are now in effect. These changes may impact consultant requirements and related processes. Please review the updated standards to understand how they may apply to you.
Please note that while the update consultant standards are being rolled out, the CIT Declaration Form will be frozen between January 1 – March 31, 2026. This means any current EMDRIA Certified Therapist™ who wants to start the process for applying for the EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ credential, will need to wait until the CIT Declaration Form has opened back up. Any consultation of consultation hours completed prior to submitting the CIT Declaration Form will not count towards the consultation requirement.
The initial consultant application includes updated requirements, which can be found below. The new application will open up later in 2026.
Applying Under the Old Requirements
If you are a current CIT who successfully completed the CIT Declaration Form prior to January 1, 2026, and are in your current five-year time frame, the old requirements will remain valid while applying for the initial consultant application. You can access more information here.
Upcoming Increase to EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ Initial Application Fee
Effective June 1, 2026, the initial EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ initial application fee will increase by $50.
The updated fee will apply to all initial consultant applications submitted on or after June 1, 2026, regardless of whether applicants are applying under the previous or revised consultant standards. Applications submitted prior to that date will be processed at the current fee.
Eligibility Requirements
Current EMDRIA Certified Therapists™ who have successfully completed the online CIT Declaration Form are eligible to begin working towards the EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ credential. In addition to being a current EMDRIA Certified Therapist™, applicants must adhere to the EMDRIA Approved Consultant™ Standards as well as complete the application requirements prior to submitting their consultant application through our online portal.
