Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Using Inclusive Design to Reduce Barriers to Learning

This presentation will review the guidelines for Universal Design for Learning that might be utilized in EMDR basic trainings. These guidelines offer a set of concrete suggestions that can be applied to ensure that all learners can access and participate in meaningful learning opportunities.

Learning Theories into Practice: Designing for the Adult Learner

This presentation is designed specifically for EMDR trainers looking to enhance their teaching methods by incorporating adult learning theories and principles. Participants will explore adult learning theories with application for engaging adult learners in training opportunities that are effective and efficient in meeting diverse Trainees learning wants and needs.

2. Participants will be able to identify practical applications of Universal Design for Learning that might be applied to EMDR basic trainings.
3. Participants will be able to identify learning enhancements to make their EMDR basic trainings more engaging, effective, and efficient to meet diverse learning needs.

Zach Petrea, EdD

Zach Petrea, EdD is Professor of English at Heartland Community College, where for 20 years he has advocated for curriculum development in order to foster student success through roles as Chair of the Curriculum Committee, Writing Program Coordinator, and Dual Credit Coordinator for the Liberal Arts & Social Sciences. His efforts to promote faculty professional development began after receiving a Certificate in Universal Design for Technology Integration, and led to his position as Universal Design for Learning Faculty Coordinator, culminating with his doctorate in Learning Design.

Beyond these curricular experiences, he has tried to balance faculty support with advocacy for student access to international educational opportunities through his roles as Study Abroad Coordinator and Co-Chair of the Committee for Global Education. However, in all things, he is constantly humbled by his two daughters who teach him how much he still has to learn. Kids are great!

Traci Van Prooyen, EdD, CPTD

Education and Standards Specialist (EMDRIA).

Traci has 30 years of experience in a variety of leadership roles in both the academic and corporate fields. Traci has an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, and a B.A., Secondary Education (Social Sciences) from Illinois State University. She also holds an M.A., Counseling, from Bradley University, and a B.A., Christian Education from Moody Bible Institute. Her expertise includes designing adult learning programs using a variety of learning and instruction design theories, and delivering those programs using multiple learning management systems and instructional technologies.
