Course Description
The aim of this two-hour EMDRIA Summit virtual learning experience is to explore the application of EMDR for active duty military personnel and veterans. The objectives are, firstly, to contextualize the lived experiences of both serving personnel and veterans. This will include exposure to potentially traumatic events, military organizational wellbeing strategies, the prevalence of post traumatic stress disorder, and access to based care. Secondly, to summarize the evidence base for trauma focused therapy, including EMDR, for these populations. And finally, to consider the application of EMDR as a treatment option.

Dean Whybrow Ph.D
Dean Whybrow, Ph.D., is a mental health nurse, BABCP accredited cognitive behavioral therapist, EMDR Europe accredited practitioner and university lecturer. He has a PhD in Organizational Health and Wellbeing. Dr. Whybrow’s research is focused on workforce, well-being and mental health practice. Before becoming a university lecturer, he served a full career in the Royal Navy, where he performed a wide range of roles in an occupationally focused mental health service. EMDR publications have included a general review of EMDR, EMDR for active-duty personnel, and EMDR for veterans.
Victoria Williams, BSc(Hons) RMN, PGDip, MSc
Victoria Williams, BSc(Hons) RMN, PGDip, MSc, is a Registered Mental Health Nurse with over 30 years of experience. She is Accredited in CBT and is an EMDR consultant. She is the Clinical Lead for Veterans NHS Wales, a specialized mental health service for veterans with military-related mental health difficulties. As a clinician, Victoria has worked in various mental health settings throughout her career, including inpatient, crisis team, and community services. Her expertise in CBT and EMDR allows her to deliver evidence-based therapies that help clients process trauma, build resilience, and achieve recovery. She is deeply committed to providing high-quality, person-centered care tailored to each individual’s needs.
