Aaron Akua Collins, LMFT
About Me
Aaron Collins, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi and is the owner of Akua Family Therapy in Kurtistown. He has served in local churches in a variety of roles, including Youth Pastor, Elder, Administrative Assistant, Missions Pastor, and Volunteer Coordinator. Growing up in Hawaiʻi’s diverse cultural environment and being married to a Filipina, Aaron values cultural sensitivity and the richness of cross-cultural relationships. With a heart for strengthening families and communities, he integrates systemic family therapy, EMDR, and Christian-based counseling to help individuals, couples, and families find healing and connection. As an AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate, Aaron is also committed to mentoring and training the next generation of therapists while fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented practice.
Education & Experience
Aaron Collins holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (2014) and has been practicing clinically since 2017. He is trained in systemic family therapy, EMDR, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Levels I and II). Aaron has completed EMDR basic training twice, including the 10 hours of required consultation, and is actively pursuing certification through advanced consultation. In addition to his clinical work, he serves as an AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate, having fulfilled all supervision requirements and awaiting final approval, and began providing supervision in 2023. Aaron brings over 20 years of experience serving people in helping roles through volunteer ministry, work with individuals on the autism spectrum and with special needs, and support for children and adolescents with severe emotional and behavioral challenges. Licensed in 2017, he practiced independently until 2023, when he founded Akua Family Therapy as a group practice, where he now serves as owner and clinical director.

American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) – Clinical Member & Approved Supervisor Candidate Hawaii Association for Marriage and Family Therapy – Member EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) – Member Christian Counselors Network – Focus on the Family Mission Team Leader and volunteer with local and international Christian ministries, including annual outreach and training trips to the Philippines Community outreach and family education initiatives through Akua Family Therapy Volunteer and founder of a Christian connect group online for christian therapists and counselors which meets once per month to support each other's professional development.
