About Me
Are you feeling stuck and unsure of where to turn next? Life can be difficult to navigate through its ups and downs. Many times individuals are simply lacking specific tools to be able to navigate through the turbulence. Sometimes life has been so overwhelming for so long that it seems impossible to even begin. At any of these points in your journey, it helps to know that you aren't alone and that many have traveled similar paths before you. I am an Embodied Healing Practitioner, which is another way of saying that I work with your nervous system to restore its innate healing wisdom and potential, allowing for your inner resiliency to flourish and restore balance to your mind, body, and spirit. I work with you one on one, either in person or via online video sessions, from wherever you are located in the world. I bring together over a decade worth of experience and training in various healing modalities, including EMDR, Neurofeedback, Somatic Experiencing and Transpersonal approaches, to cater each session specifically to your individual needs. By approaching healing from the bottom up, as opposed to solely the top-down methods of traditional therapy, my clients report a relief of symptoms without having to go into an extensive retelling of their stories. Other benefits of sessions that clients have mentioned include: feeling a sense of inner peace, being able to see the world through a fresh set of eyes, and the ability to feel more comfortable in their bodies while experiencing a renewed sense of presence - amongst other positive benefits. Are you ready to begin to feel more at home and at ease in your own body?
Education & Experience
Angela Gouger graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with her Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health. She was able to obtain a multitude of experiences through her work with various organizations such as: the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas - where she obtained skills with individual clients, as well as being the group facilitator of the "Little Hearts" group (3-5 year olds); the University of Incarnate Word - where she focused on EMDR and trauma based counseling; Catholic Charities - trauma and faith based counseling; and the UTSA Sarabia Center - where she counseled clients as well as provided Neurofeedback therapy. The University of Texas at San Antonio is one of only three credentialed programs in the nation for Neurofeedback. During her time in the program Angela became instrumental in facilitating training to all of the new introductory students. Through research conducted at UTSA, her research group received awards for their pilot study: "Using Neurofeedback to Lower Anxiety Using Individualized qEEG Protocols: A Pilot Study"; which was also published in the journal Neuroregulation. She is board certified in Neurofeedback by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance. Angela obtained Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training through Rick Levinson, LCSW and Somatic Experiencing (SE) training from Dave Berger, Advanced faculty of the Trauma Institute, Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP) training with Raja Selvam, as well as other advanced level somatic and transpersonal based modalities. She is deeply passionate about the utilization and benefits of these specialties with a variety of clients, especially those who have survived a traumatic incident. By integrating the various modalities in which she has specialized in, Angela is able to bring an integrative holistic client-centered approach, which is individually catered to each client's unique needs.
