About Me
I am passionate about treating trauma. Many of us experience traumatic events/relationships and sometimes we get stuck and need help getting past them. Trauma can happen in childhood, in the workplace, as a first responder, or in a personal relationship. Trauma can stay with us in our brains, nervous systems, and in our bodies. Helping clients heal and develop a new sense of safety after trauma empowers them to trust themselves and helps them move on with peace and confidence. We may hold trauma in our bodies but we do not have to keep it there! We can release it, re-wire the brain, and heal with the right interventions. After experiencing the consequences of my own traumatic relationships, I embarked on a journey to understand these relationship and to heal myself. The impacts of coercive control, domestic violence, and the coping strategies we develop to survive, can influence how we show up and what we tolerate in relationships. This happens at an unconscious level. It is important to forgive ourselves for doing our best to survive in adverse situations, and give ourselves compassion as we learn new techniques and skills going forward. While taking responsibility for our own healing, we can simultaneously begin to identify and develop an understanding of how unhealthy, dysfunctional relational patterns cause harm. We learn about asserting healthy boundaries, being accountable for our behavior, while we no longer allowing others to blame their choices and behaviors on us. This is not only empowering, it ultimately frees us from the weight of these relationships. Trauma therapy helps us release this pain from our bodies and nervous systems while we learn to make space for the new healed version of ourselves. Ultimately, we recognize that healing is an on-going journey and not a final destination.
