About Me
My name is Anjou Parekh, and I am a licensed professional clinical counselor in the State of California. I am also registered to see clients via telehealth in Florida. I assist individuals facing a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, and other life transitions. My experience includes working with adults and adolescents in a private practice, a community college, and a hospice. In all of these settings, I have been honored to meet and support clients from varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds. I offer talk therapy as well as Brainspotting, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is recognized by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences. I am also a certified yoga instructor and blend elements of yoga and mindfulness-based approaches into my sessions as appropriate. My client-centered, solution-focused approach allows me to use a variety of research-based therapeutic practices to support you in your treatment goals. I provide a confidential, warm, and nonjudgmental environment in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings as you move forward in your life journeys. My perspective is trauma-informed, multicultural, and LGBTQPIA+ affirming. In my prior public health career, I spent over fifteen years managing healthcare programs for women, children, and families, both domestically and internationally. Through my work in program planning and implementation, I interacted with policy-makers, administrators, healthcare providers, and patients in promoting the health of individuals, families, communities, and the environment. This experience has provided me with a unique macro-level perspective that I bring to my clinical work as it allows me an understanding of the scope of public health issues surrounding individuals and their relationships to their larger community. Though I was born and raised in Canada and the USA, I have had the privilege of working and living in a variety of countries in both Asia and Latin America, including India, Japan, China, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. I speak several languages, including Spanish and Gujarati. Currently I reside in San Diego, California. I look forward to supporting you in your life journey.
