Catharine is committed to on going professional development each year to remain current about emerging therapeutic ideas. Learning more about trauma has lead her to seek additional training in brain development and neuroscience. Understanding how the brain stores and manages traumatic experiences is a vital part of creating a safe therapeutic alliance with clients. She believes in working collaboratively with people to help them bring compassion and understanding to their concerns.
Education & Experience
Catharine has a Masters of Arts in Applied Behaviour Science from the Leadership Institute of Seattle, City University and has been a Therapist, Child, Youth and Family practitioner and educator for over 35 years. She has been trained in Family Systems Counselling, Post Modern Approaches such as Feminist, Narrative and Solution-Focused Counselling, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Expressive Therapies (Play, Art) and is a Certified Therapist in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She has maintained a private counselling practice in Nanaimo, BC since 1994. She works with individuals, couples, children, youth and families who are experiencing anxiety; depression; trauma and loss; relationship difficulties; separation, divorce; blending new families; parenting; youth issues; LGBTQ; transgender; family violence; and issues of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

Catharine volunteers with a number of organizations in the community. She works with agencies to support training of volunteers and with at risk homeless woman providing trauma counselling services.
