About Me

Hello, I'm Christen, a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Certified EMDR Therapist at Providence Therapy. Whatever challenges you may be navigating through right now, my hope is that you may move forward in healing by building effective tools to manage your symptoms, facing & overcoming your challenges, and making meaning of your circumstances. As a practitioner, I am passionate about creating a space where adult clients can feel secure as they explore their stories in an environment of therapeutic connection. As a clinician, I maintain a holistic, mind-body orientation to therapy grounded in neuroscience, with an emphasis on attachment and relational healing. While many of us have different ideas of what trauma means, at Providence, trauma is defined as the sudden and accumulative impact of stress. This may include "big T" traumas (major car accidents, assaults, near-death experiences, etc.), but can also include developmental traumas or the accumulation of smaller adverse experiences and stressors that people can experience over their lifetime.⁣⁣⁣ In the event that these experiences overwhelm our body's natural ability to cope, symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, brain fog, memory challenges, PTSD, Dissociation, and feeling stuck in coping strategies that are no longer working for us can interfere with our lives.⁣ ⁣ What many don't realize is that chronic stress and trauma can also have a physiological impact on the nervous, cardiovascular, and immune systems of the body, leading to conditions such as chronic pain and inflammation, gut health and GTI concerns, fatigue, sleep difficulties, autoimmune diseases, dietary sensitivities, and even cancers and heart disease.⁣ In addressing these concerns, I draw from a diverse education and an assorted range of therapeutic theories and techniques. My hope is that as we work together we can tailor a therapeutic approach to meet your individual needs!⁣⁣⁣ Though my training welcomes adult clients with varying concerns and goals, I have specific experience working with survivors of gendered violence, sexual abuse, human trafficking, and work from an anti-oppression lens. On a personal level, I absolutely love to learn, explore the world, and play music any chance I can. I maintain an active lifestyle consisting of a range of mixed martial arts and group fitness activities and am an advocate for balanced healthy living. I am also a professional dog lover and hope to integrate animal therapy into practice in the future. I understand that we can face many challenges when taking the first step to healing. My hope is that as we work together we can find a therapeutic approach to meet your individual needs so you can grow, heal and thrive. I look forward to starting that process of healing with you.
