About Me
Crystal Zelman (she/her) is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S) and a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS). Crystal combines her experience, training, intuition, & client goals to create a tailored approach for each individual, working genuinely and collaboratively with clients to lead and guide their work together. Crystal utilizes a variety of modalities in her work with children and adults, including play therapy, therapeutic art, sandtray therapy, EMDR, pet therapy, and/or traditional talk therapy. She has extensive experience supporting children & adults coping with their own (or a family member's) medical diagnosis/illness, who are grieving the loss of a loved one, and individuals experiencing anxiety. Crystal has a passion for supporting children and adults in their journeys through grief, offering a safe space for all the feelings that accompany loss.
Education & Experience
Crystal Graduated with her MSW in 2007. She completed EMDR basic training in December of 2022. She previously worked for over 9 years with children who had a parent or other family member with cancer, supporting children's inner resilience & coping. Crystal is an EMDR certified therapist utilizing EMDR with adults and children, as well as offering play-based EMDR for children, drawing from over 50 additional training hours in playful EMDR (post basic training) as well as direct experience utilizing EMDR with children & families. Crystal has a passion for working with both children & young adults who are working through grief and/or medical/illness experiences. Crystal is currently a Part-Time Lecturer at Rutgers University, teaching clinical social work classes to masters level students since 2015.
