About Me
If anyone knew how much you hurt, they’d be shocked. After all, you’re the one who keeps it all together. You’ve worn the title of “overachiever” with pride. But, for a long time you’ve known that something just wasn’t right, and lately your body has been telling you this, too. The nightmares, flashbacks, and episodes of checking out are just the beginning -- you feel the pain of what happened to you in your whole body. But there's so much to do! So many people need you. You’ve been hoping that if you just ignore that nagging feeling, it will go away. By now you know it’s not going away, and you’re tired of trying to pretend that you are okay. You don’t have to pretend anymore. As someone who has experienced chronic pain since her teenage years, I know what it is like to try to hope away the hurt. And, as a mom of three autistic kids, I also know how hard it can be to take the time out to care for yourself. If you also identify as neurodivergent yourself, whether that's autistic, Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), ADHD, or something else, be assured that I know what it's like to live in a world that does not feel like it is set up for you, and I know how that influences experiences of trauma and pain. Together, we'll discover and change the patterns that keep you stuck in pain and trauma. You will learn how to unlock your internal healing resources, calm your mind and body, and put the past to rest. EMDR is one of several methods that I use to help people get past their past trauma and heal from chronic pain. Now, take a moment to imagine what it will be like once we're working together, when you feel you are finally at ease in your body and your mind is calm. Feel your shoulders relax as you breathe deeply, knowing that lasting change is on the way. Notice the relief in your body as you prepare to feel understood and supported. Education & Experience
This is the part of the profile where I tell you all of my degrees and certifications. I've got those, and you can scroll down to see them. But first, let me tell you that all the degrees in the world won't make a difference if we're not a good fit and you don't feel safe with me. I am committed to making sure we are a good fit (and helping you move on if we're not), making sure you feel safe and supported, and ensuring the treatment that we choose is a good fit for you. People say when they work with me that they know that I care. I have been known to tear up in sessions (especially when I see you taking a big step or making good progress) -- not to worry, I will be just fine. If you're okay with that, we'll probably be a good match. If you want someone who will be removed and distant, I'm not your person, and that's okay. I also don't see couples or people under age 18. Now for the qualifications... I have been in practice for over 10 years. I have the following degrees: Master of Social Work from University of St. Thomas/St. Catherine's University School of Social Work; Master of Arts from Yale University; Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College. I hold the following certifications: Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy; Certified in Clinical Hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis; Certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy by the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety. I have given presentations on chronic pain and trauma at the Autism Society of Minnesota annual conference, National Association of Social Workers Minnesota State Conference, HealthEast Spine Symposium, and the Minnesota Holistic Medicine Group.
