Heather is a clinical social worker and school social worker with 15 years of experience working with bicultural families, Third-Culture Kids (TCKs) and Adult Third Culture Kids (ATCKs), military members, immigrants, and displaced persons. Heather has a strong interest in issues stemming from childhood adversity, bicultural and cross-cultural challenges, issues of identity, challenges experienced by Neurodivergent clients, and challenges facing new and transitioning parents. She uses an integrative approach to meet the needs of her clients, and has specialized post-graduate training in the clinical applications of attachment science, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Synergetic Play Therapy, and various Cognitive Therapies. Heather works with a range of clients, including those experiencing adjustment difficulties, relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, ADHD, and grief. She works therapeutically with clients globally through her online practice, and has worked in person at an international primary school in Istanbul with children, parents, and school staff to support children with special needs. As a social worker who is also part of a local expat network, Heather has supported this community by organizing events to respond to acute stress experienced after several earthquakes, and by organizing family-oriented social events and fundraising for charities.
