About Me
I am overjoyed to be able to be a therapist. To be with others in their difficulty and see them grow and change is the most rewarding work I can think of. I am trained in EMDR, an evidence-based practice to help with these types of difficulties, and am pursuing full certification in this incredible modality. I think about all of my clients as part of the web of interconnections they are a part of, in their families, marriages, workplaces, and cultures. I see people individually, but often invite into my sessions romantic partners, children, parents, whole families, or discussions around inequality and oppression. I have received advanced training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy for couples and families, and am pursuing certification therein. This is an evidence-based practice to help build trust, repair disconnection or betrayal, and be close together as a couple or family. I also value children's mental health as one of the most important things in our society. I see adolescents, children, and have received advanced training in assessing children ages birth to five. Finally I'd like to share about me. I was born and raised in the Mankato area and have been working in the mental health field in southern Minnesota for a dozen years. In my free time one could find me hiking in the woods near my house in the river valley, knitting with a cat on my lap, digging in the soil, or reading a book.
Education & Experience
I am proud to call myself a social worker, and received my Master of Social Work from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, and have been working in the mental health field since 2009. I decided I wanted to be a therapist when I was 16 while reading my neighbor's DSM-III. I worked in group homes throughout high school and college, and graduated with a degree in psychology and a minor in alcohol and drug studies in 2009 from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I then worked for several years as a Mental Health Practitioner for CTSS, ARMHS, and IRTS programming in the Mankato area. Since becoming a therapist in 2016, I have worked in an outpatient setting, and joined my current practice at Mankato Mental Health Associates in 2019. Additional EMDR Trainings: 2022 - EMDR With Children (Ana Gomez's Master Class Series 1-5) 2022- Early Trauma Protocol (Susan Paulsen)
