James Lavino, LPC, MT-BC
About Me
I'm a licensed professional counselor and board-certified music therapist with specialized training in trauma-focused care, including EMDR. My clinical work is grounded in empathy, care, and respect for each client’s unique process. When it’s helpful, I integrate music-based methods into the work — not as a one-size-fits-all technique, but as a flexible tool that can support self-expression, insight, and regulation. My goal is to be steady, attentive, and thoughtful — and to offer therapy that meets you where you are and evolves alongside your needs.
Education & Experience
I hold a Master’s degree in Music Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University, where I received the College of Nursing and Health Professions' Artistry Award and was inducted into the National Honor Society for Allied Health Professions. I also hold a Master’s degree in Literature from Yale University and a BA in English from Boston University. Over the years, I’ve worked in a range of mental health settings — inpatient psychiatric hospitals, intensive outpatient programs, long-term care facilities, and outpatient therapy practices. I’ve supported individuals across the lifespan, helping them navigate trauma, anxiety, grief, and periods of emotional or relational uncertainty.
