About Me
I’m Jamila, EMDR and Trauma Therapist in Seattle, Washington. I work with Gen Z and Millennial womxn who are or have experienced anxiety, burn-out, or trauma. At the core of my approach to therapy is a belief that the pace of your healing matters. I’m passionate and committed to providing a safe place where you get to say what is really on your mind, process the difficult things, and shift into a place where you feel like you have choices, can be grounded in the present moment, and have direction for the future. It’s possible to feel at ease after anxiety, burn-out and trauma. In therapy, there is no pressure to keep everything together or hold your emotions in. Sessions are an emotionally safe space to speak your truth without the concern of others knowing about it, problem solve situations you feel stuck in, and get a better understanding of what your emotions are trying to communicate to you. There are ways to partner with our bodies so that emotions aren’t always overwhelming, we can understand what your body is trying to say. EMDR Therapy helps people heal from trauma that feels stuck in the mind and body. With EMDR, individuals are able to remember and recall challenging memories without getting triggered or having a softened emotional reaction. You don’t have to struggle silently trying to keep it all together. I'd love to support you in reconnecting with the wonder and awe in yourself and give you tools that can help you feel more comfortable in managing big feelings. You can schedule a free 20 minute phone consultation through my website to see if therapy here would be a good fit.
Education & Experience
I graduated with a bachelors in Community Psychology and a minor in Education and Society from the University of Washington. I wanted to broaden my counseling skills to be able to work in different settings such as agencies, schools, or other practices. I found the perfect mix of this at the University of Puget Sound where I completed my masters in Education with a focus on School and Mental Health Counseling. I have provided mental health therapy within community mental health agencies, non-profits, public schools, tribal communities, university settings, and private practice. My training in is art therapy, CBT, EMDR, somatic work, and trauma therapy (i.e., single, complex, generational, and historical).
