About Me

Hello, my name is Jean Ramsey and I look forward to working with you. I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor in New Mexico. I am also certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors. Through struggles to adjust to the many changes in my own life, I have learned compassion and practical ways to help others deal effectively with change and develop resiliency. In my over 20 years as a counselor, I have had the great fortune to work with many different ages, cultures and life issues. I have experience working with people dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, addiction, parenting and relationship issues as well as work and life dissatisfaction among other issues. My role as a helper is very important to me and I am always humbled when people sit before me and reveal their vulnerable selves. I find so much joy in watching others shed their pain and move forward. I view counseling as an interactive process that requires me to learn how to best help you. I will strive to help you walk away from a session with me feeling more understanding and compassion for yourself and knowing that you have participated in forming a plan for our work together and concrete steps to take before the next session. I have training in and utilize techniques from EMDR, CBT, Mindfulness, DBT, Brainspotting, Solution-Focused, as well as Motivational and Coaching approaches. The main focus of my training over the past several years has been on trauma treatment and I find those techniques helpful for most of the people I serve. I encourage people I work with to understand their mental health in the greater context of their overall health and well-being and make sustainable changes to benefit the whole person. If you feel that I would be a good fit for you or a good referral source for someone you are working with, please contact me.
