About Me

A bit about my background: I have been a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse (LCADC) counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for many years. After working with substance abusers in various treatment settings, I worked with adolescents with emotional distress and other issues for twenty years right through the beginning of the Covid crisis. The last fourteen years were spent as the Student Assistance Coordinator at Voorhees High School in Lebanon, NJ. During these years, I provided individual and group counseling, crisis counseling and many other functions related to community education etc. I worked with kids with anxiety, depression, family issues, identity and orientation issues, adjustment issues, and trauma. Suicide prevention was always a priority. Some of the groups I developed were Children of Addicted Parents (COAP), Children of Divorce (Spit P’s), LGBTQ kids (Out and About), Adopted Kids (The A Team), Girls with Self-esteem/relationship issues (Power Girls), and many more. I mention these to give you a sense of my special sensitivity and interest in just some of the things that often cause teens distress. Since Covid, there are many more issues that could be added the list. Since leaving VHS, I have been seeing teens and adults in the teletherapy setting though I had planned to develop an in-person practice in Clinton, NJ - it never came to fruition as Covid derailed direct services due to the risks involved. It is my sincere goal to make every session meaningful and productive; there is no time to waste where mental health is concerned. I consider myself a ‘trauma informed’ therapist, meaning that I look for and work with traumatic events in a person’s life which are causing them distress in the present. These don’t always need to be “big T” traumas but can be collective developmental traumas like those experienced in an unhealthy home or school-related experiences. I am trained in and use EMDR therapy which is a highly effective post-trauma technique. And EMDR 2.0 now! (If you’re interested, look at EMDR.com), and it works well in the virtual setting. So, whether you're an adult or a teen, I hope you will consider me for your counseling needs. I will be glad to discuss scheduling and pricing when I hear from you…and I hope I do.
