About Me
Joan Striebel, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist at Adelpha Psychiatric Group in Pasadena, California. Before deciding to pursue medicine, I was an elementary school teacher, and my love of learning and teaching has been a theme throughout my career. I'm trained in EMDR and am interested in treating all types of trauma. When needed, I can provide careful medication management in addition to EMDR for anxiety and mood disorders as well as ADHD, substance use disorders, and psychotic disorders.
Education & Experience
I attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. After completing my residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Addiction Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, I spent ten years working in forensic settings, providing psychopharmacology consultations, and teaching psychiatry residents and fellows. My interests have led me to write several book chapters related to mental illness and addiction. I am certified as an obesity medicine physician by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
I am a voluntary Clinical Assistant Professor and a teaching attending at the UCLA Psychosis Clinic. The UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences honored me with the award for Outstanding Volunteer Clinical Faculty Teaching 2024-2025.
