Joanne Featherston, LICSW
(She, her, hers)
About Me
I provide outpatient psychotherapy to adults throughout the life span, using an integrative approach to various mental health issues. My areas of expertise are in mental health issues of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, PTSD/trauma, addiction, and chronic health issues. My therapeutic approach is strengths based, trauma informed, with a focus on cognitive behavioral interventions, DBT, mind and body connections, mindfulness-based strategies, narrative therapy, and the use of expressive arts. I am EMDR trained and a certified trauma specialist. I believe that people have the strength within themselves to heal, but sometimes they need a little help in finding it, especially when faced with difficult life transitions and challenges.
Education & Experience
I received my bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State University and worked as a BSW in community mental health, outreach and prevention programs fro over 20 years. I went back to graduate school at Rhode Island College later in life and competed my Master's degree in clinical social work. I have worked in addiction and mental health treatment centers and currently I am in private practice through LifeStance Heath specializing in trauma therapy.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
In addition to my clinical practice, I am member of the Brown University, Warren Alpert Medical School teaching community where I instruct medical students in areas of professionalism and various mental health concerns. This teaching experience has added to the holistic approach of my clinical practice; assisting people in bridging the gap between physical and psychological concerns in order to promote overall wellness and healing.
