About Me

Joanne Frederick is licensed as a Registered Psychologist in Saskatchewan, Canada, and soon to be licensed in British Columbia, Canada. In her private practice, she provides therapeutic services to adults seeking skills, strategies and supports in navigating difficult life situations. Her work is guided by a passion for helping people find sustainable solutions to life challenges using an array of therapeutic interventions, including traditional talk therapy, EMDR, and other mindfulness-based approaches. She strives to blend her knowledge, skills, wisdom and experience with equal parts of warmth, compassion and humour in her work. Joanne is a trauma-informed therapist who honours diversity and inclusiveness. She is a life-long learner and compassionate global citizen who works to embrace decolonizing practices in the field of psychology and beyond. YOU ARE WELCOME HERE. Finally, Joanne is also the founder and director of the Prairie Centre for Mindfulness. She teaches the internationally-acclaimed eight week course, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and also facilitates various educational and training sessions on mindfulness. Many people complete MBSR either before, during or after individual counselling in order to learn and practice effective ways of reducing stress-related symptoms.

Education & Experience

Post-secondary education completed at the university of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Graduated with a M.A. in Psychology in 1995. Completed training to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2015. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Training completed in 2014. Joanne completes ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date with best-practices in Psychology.

Professional & Volunteer Affiliations

Her professional memberships include: the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, the Canadian Psychological Association and the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. From 2008 to 2016, Joanne was a volunteer member of the Professional Conduct Committee with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists. She has also been a panelist for the College's Oral Examinations.
