About Me
Dr. Leso works primarily with adults and encourages clients to explore and achieve their personal best, leveraging their strengths in a collaborative, goal-oriented approach. Using cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques as well as EMDR, Dr. Leso has successfully helped clients with a variety of issues such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress, depression, bereavement, relationship problems, and work stress heal and grow. He is experienced in LGBT and diversity issues, fluent in Spanish and has specialized training in cross cultural psychology. A firm believer in the link between physical and mental health, Dr. Leso also has training and experience as a yoga instructor and has offered workshops on mind-body fitness, healthy living and maximizing personal potential.
Education & Experience
Dr. John Leso has been licensed as a psychologist for over 25 years and has provided a broad range of mental health treatment and consultative services worldwide through a combination of government service and private practice. He served on the faculties of the U.S Army Medical Department Center and School and the U.S. Army School of Aviation Medicine, and he was the Chief of Health Psychology Services at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Leso was a first responder following the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, has many years of experience helping survivors of trauma and is an EMDR International Association approved EMDR Therapist. Relatedly, he has interest and expertise in providing psychological support to individuals (and their families) who have deployed to war zones and other high risk areas as part of their government service. Dr. Leso earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University, a Master’s Degree from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany.
