About Me
My job is to have hope for people when they have none. With two Masters degrees from Columbia, I've been honing my craft for nearly 20 years as a social worker empowering others to improve their lives. Do you feel like you’re not reaching your full potential, and you’re not sure why? Are you struggling to heal from traumatic experiences? You are not alone. Life doesn’t have to be this way. You’ve come to the right place. Let’s tear down the barriers that are holding you back from your dreams and your limitless potential. These testimonials from former clients will tell you more about what it’s like to work with me: “Jonathan was my therapist for two years. We met regularly and, during sessions, went into my past traumas to identify and resolve present patterns associated with them. These issues were constantly holding me back from a happy and productive life. He introduced different methods and techniques to address my PTSD, some of which were difficult to process at first, but I can honestly say I feel whole again and not afraid to look at the past and reach for the future. I am eternally grateful that he was put in my path just when I needed him most.” Susan S., Military Veteran. “Jonathan is really talented at helping you navigate your core memories in a paced and sustainable way. I had a great deal of trauma that was debilitating me from everyday life and after just four months of treatment with Jonathan, I started to notice some big positive adjustments. I was able to approach relationships with others and myself with more understanding and patience. I’m grateful to have had this healing time. It taught me how to care for myself with more empathy.” -Brisa R., Artist. "Before meeting Jonathan, I had no control over my anxiety. I couldn't breathe properly, literally it felt like I was always in a state of shortness of breath. I couldn't drive without going into a panic. I couldn't do things on my own. I would oftentimes be anxious and the reason why was beyond my comprehension. Within a few months of working with Jonathan, I got the physical symptoms under control. And within one year I was already feeling like a completely different person. I was able to do several things on my own that I never thought I could. I was able to self-regulate and calm myself down in times where my anxiety was rising. And I've worked with 4+ therapists before Jonathan and none are like him. He gave me both practical skills and time to talk through my emotions. If you are someone who wants to get the practical applications of improving your mental health, and not just talk therapy, I can't recommend Jonathan enough!" -Faith S., Entrepreneur.
Education & Experience
EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Psychology: The Ohio State University Honors College; Master of Social Work (MSW): Columbia University; Master of Public Health (MPH): Columbia University; Post-Graduate Fellowship: Naval Medical Center San Diego. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am a well-trained and experienced mental health provider who is consistently improving my own skillset to incorporate the latest research on therapeutic growth. I also have a diverse set of work experiences that have shaped how I approach psychotherapy. I am both a Navy Veteran and a former Peace Corps Volunteer, and I spent the early years of my career as a community organizer in the marriage equality movement. My clinical foundation was built on working with adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. While in graduate school at Columbia University in New York City, I seized every opportunity to learn from the best in the field. When I was a Naval Officer, I worked as an active duty mental health provider at five different duty stations, including two tours as the Director of Mental Health at clinics on military bases. During those years, I treated nearly every mental health condition but maintained a specialty in treating issues related to trauma and/or sexuality. Since then, I have worked in prisons, non-profits, and telehealth clinics. California is home, but I was born and raised in rural Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. I come from a blue-collar, working-class family. A Midwesterner at heart, I completed my undergraduate studies in Psychology at The Ohio State University. Early life experiences shaped my values of compassion, honesty, hard work, and empathy. I look forward to hearing your story.
