Karen Schanck, LCSW
About Me
I am honored to help children in foster care and children who have been adopted from foster care (ages 6-12). With an emphasis on calming the nervous system and addressing trauma, my office is a safe place for children to explore and process. EMDR, sand tray therapy, CBT, and play therapy approaches are utilized. I have many years of experience in the mental health field including private practice as an EMDR certified trauma therapist, starting and coordinating a therapeutic foster care program in Hampton Roads, being a clinical administrator for a therapeutic foster care program in Maryland, working with children in a residential treatment facility, with children in orphanages and group homes in Nicaragua, and with Vietnamese refugees in foster care. Additionally, I served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children. I have a special place in my heart for working with these vulnerable children. I accept all forms of Medicaid. If you have a child in need of therapy, please give me a call.
