About Me
Dr. Kathy Goss Atanasov is a licensed professional counselor, certified substance abuse counselor, and Certified EMDR counselor in the state of Virginia. Dr. A started her counseling career as a high school counselor (M.Ed, William & Mary, 2007), and later specialized in addiction and mental health counseling during her doctorate (Ph.D, William & Mary, 2016). Dr. A has worked with adolescents and adults in several clinical settings including public schools, a college addictions clinic, the court system, and at a residential addictions center. In addition, Dr. A is a part-time faculty member with Walden University where she teaches a variety of counseling classes including addiction counseling, prepracticum, foundations of graduate study, and group lab. Her ideal full-time job is teaching part-time and counseling part-time. Dr. A specializes in treating adults with: Substance Abuse Trauma Childhood Abuse/Neglect Attachment Issues Sexual Assault Anxiety Depression Grief and Loss Dr. A is committed to social justice and is an ally of LBGTQ+ community. She utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, Brainspotting, and EMDR/Flash dependent on the individual needs of her clients. Kathy is the owner of Therapy Owls LLC and also works part-time at the Farley Center in Williamsburg, VA.
