Dr. Brandenborg is an EMDR trained Clinical Psychologist who integrates trauma-informed, relational, attachment-based, and cognitive approaches in her work to tailor treatment to your unique needs and goals. Dr. Brandenborg is an empathic and inquisitive listener, believing you already hold many of the answers to make necessary change and you just need the essential support from another caring person to partner with you on those tasks. Despite this deep belief in your own healing potential, Dr. Brandenborg has a unique ability to ask responsive questions to further guide you on your path towards self-discovery, providing helpful interventions tailored to you and your unique history and current circumstances. Dr. Brandenborg will not shy away from providing kind, honest and direct feedback and teaches helpful strategies to provide more immediate symptom relief, improve communication and boundaries, and learn more helpful ways of interacting with unhelpful thoughts, reactions and behaviors.
Education & Experience
Dr. Brandenborg is a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of trauma. Dr. Brandenborg received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Throughout her training and career, she has worked with individuals, families, couples, children, and adolescents in a variety of settings, including inpatient hospitalization, outpatient community mental health and private/group practices. Dr. Brandenborg has an integrative approach to therapy that honors the profoundly unique nature of individuals. She believes in the powerful impact early life experiences have on a person’s development of self and experience of others. She seeks to help her clients increase insight and self-awareness in order to make the changes necessary to reach their unique potentials. In addition to basic EMDR training, Dr. Brandenborg has participated in intensive advanced EMDR workshops geared toward working with complex trauma and attachment wounds, providing additional tools and skills to work with people who have more extensive trauma histories, particularly those that began and occurred all throughout childhood. While EMDR therapy is the primary treatment approach Dr. Brandenborg works from, she is also trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), valuing the benefit of integrating these approaches into her insight-oriented work to offer coping skills and alternative ways of interacting with one’s thoughts and emotions in the “now” while working towards lasting growth and change.
