Kathryn (Katie) Stickney, LMHC
Preferred Name: Katie
About Me
My therapy work focuses on psychodynamic and somatic approaches to trauma, including integrating parts work (Ego State Model) and Polyvagal Theory into my practice of EMDR. I have extensive experience working with queer folks of all kinds, neurodivergence, relational abuse (DV, narcissistic abuse, sexual abuse), childhood attachment traumas, and incorporating spirituality into therapy. Specific niche populations I work with are gay and lesbian survivors of conversion therapy, folks of uncommon trans experience (eg. those who desisted or detransitioned, those who transitioned long ago and still live with gender dysphoria), and deconstruction of harms from religion in even mainline/liberal denominations. In addition to therapy, I provide clinical consultation on all of these topics. I also enjoy supervising associates, which I have been doing since 2015, and beginning in 2023 my practice now accepts masters-level interns who are interested in a private-practice based internship.
Education & Experience
I received my MA in Counseling from Seattle University in 2009, and have been practicing as a therapist since then. Before launching full time into private practice in 2016, I worked in several mental health non-profit agencies serving unhoused/unstably housed individuals, survivors of DV/IPV, and adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Prior to my work as a therapist I was an educator (BA in Education, Western WA University 2003) and I am also a former clergy member of the United Methodist Church (2010-2020) where I primarily served as a mentor, facilitator/trainer, and advocate for survivors of clergy sexual abuse.
