About Me

Laura Hussey is a clinical social worker and is co-director of LI DBT Group. Laura is a certified EMDR therapist and a consultant-in-training. She is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy with almost 20 years of experience providing individual, family, and skills groups. She incorporates the use of DBT skills in her EMDR practice to increase emotional regulation and distress tolerance during trauma work with clients. This allows clients to effectively use strategies to navigate their experience during and in between sessions. Ms. Hussey has extensive clinical experience treating complex PTSD, personality disorders, substance abuse, and mood disorders, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar, and bulimia. She specializes in the treatment of adolescents, adults, and families. Throughout her work she incorporates her training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to help clients build awareness in order to utilize strategies in achieving their goals. Ms. Hussey is passionate about helping people regulate their emotional dysregulation through the use of DBT skills and EMDR, allowing one to not only heal from the situations in life that have prompted such distress, but truly have a life worth living.
