About Me
Hey, I'm Lee Bartholomew, and my professional journey has been anything but ordinary. It started with over eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps, where I served as a Military Policeman and a Military Working Dog Handler. As a MWD Handler, I specialized in explosive detection and combat tracking, even supporting missions for the Secret Service. Rocky, my Combat Tracking Dog, and I had the distinct honor of supporting Operation Enduring Freedom as a combat tracking team. That experience instilled in me a deep sense of dedication and the power of teamwork. Today, I continue to serve my community as a patrol officer with the Hillsboro Police Department, where I'm also a proud member of the Washington County Mental Health Response Team and HPD’s peer support team. These roles allow me to connect with people on a real level and offer support when it's needed most.
Education & Experience
My commitment to understanding the human experience led me to Pacific University, where I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work. But learning is a lifelong journey! I've actively pursued extensive specialized training and certifications, including becoming a Master Trainer for ResponderStrong’s Mental Health Curriculum and completing Advanced De-escalation and Escalation Prevention (ADEPT) training. I'm also trained in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and the peer support model of EMDR called Acute Stress Adaptive Protocol (ASAP). For me, it's all about continuously growing and equipping myself with the best knowledge and skills to make a real difference.
Professional & Volunteer Affiliations
What makes my approach unique is the blend of my frontline law enforcement experience with my in-depth education and training in mental health and trauma-informed practices. I've been in the field, I understand the challenges firsthand, and I'm passionate about bridging the gap between these two critical areas. I am committed to developing and delivering practical, actionable training that draws directly from my experiences – from my time in the military to my work on the Mental Health Response Team and even developing an art therapy program during my internship. My goal is simple: to foster greater understanding, promote positive change, and empower individuals and communities to support each other better.
