About Me

Hello! My name is Maria, and my passion is to incorporate the Christian faith into therapy, specifically focusing on eating disorders and trauma. Most of my clients find their Christian faith a crucial part of who they are and desire to incorporate it into their healing journeys. Being a Christian myself, I am better able to understand the Christian value system and draw from the Bible in the interventions I use. Of course, this is all done with sensitivity to your needs and preferences while also using a gentle approach to avoid adding to any possible past spiritual abuse. I enjoy creating a safe, gentle, and empathetic space where you can explore the complexities of life and dig into the various experiences and traumas that have contributed to how you view yourself and the world today, using an eclectic approach that includes CBT and EMDR. I am specifically trained in attachment-informed EMDR (ai-EMDR) under Mark Brayne of EMDR Focus, which helps me hone in on formative experiences that led you to believe the things that are negatively impacting your life right now. By exploring attachment and seeking to go straight to the root of a negative belief to heal those formative experiences - often going way back to places you might find to be random and not actually "traumatic", I have seen incredible results. In my free time, I like spending time with family and friends, playing games, listening to audiobooks or music, and traveling the world.

Education & Experience

I have my Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) from Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester, NY and my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of South Carolina. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #C011656) in the state of North Carolina, which means that I can only serve clients who are physically located in the state of North Carolina at the time of each session. I specialize in working with people recovering from trauma and eating disorders/disordered eating, primarily using EMDR for trauma and Intuitive Eating principles for eating disorders.
