(She, her)
Preferred Name: Mary
About Me
I am a UKCP-registered psychotherapist, EMDRIA/EMDR Europe accredited consultant, and internationally recognised trainer. I specialise in working with long-standing distress, complex trauma, ego states, dissociative parts, somatic approaches, and relational repair. EMDR is my core modality because of its depth, flexibility, speed, and transformative power, but my work integrates many different modalities, including integrative and relational psychotherapy, liberation psychology, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP); Attachment-Focused EMDR, the Progressive Approach to EMDR, ego state therapy and work with dissociative parts, the Structural Dissociation Model, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, yoga therapy, and transpersonal psychotherapy. My approach is very practical and empowering, enabling people not only to resolve ‘symptoms’ and distress but also to grow stronger, more confident, peaceful, assertive, and assured, and to have warm, supportive relationships and a fulfilling life. As an EMDR consultant, I have the honour of supervising and mentoring colleagues towards certification, and I am currently training to become an EMDR trainer. I speak French and Spanish (though not quite fluently enough to conduct an entire therapy in these languages), and some Levantine Arabic.
Education & Experience
I have been practising as a psychotherapist since 2000 and as a supervisor, then EMDR consultant, since 2002. I have postgraduate diplomas in psychotherapy and supervision, a postgraduate certificate in dreamwork, and have completed many courses in advanced EMDR and other modalities. For more information, you are welcome to visit my website, maryclaredeechevarria.com. I am also a qualified teacher with over 30 years of experience in teaching and training. For 13 years, I was a training supervisor and experiential group facilitator at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London. As the founder of Healing Complex Trauma Ltd, I write and teach courses on mental health, attachment, trauma, complex and developmental trauma, advanced EMDR, and work with the body, ego states, and dissociative parts. In 2025, I taught for EMDR Lebanon in Beirut and the Middle East and North Africa Trauma Alliance (MENATA) in Dubai and was a keynote speaker at the EMDR UK Association annual conference, before returning to Dubai to give a workshop at the MENATA 2nd Annual Trauma Conference, then teaching for the University of Jordan and independently in Amman.
