About Me

My name is Sven Schild and I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and an EMDRIA certified EMDR clinician. My practice is located in San Diego, CA, but I exclusively offer telehealth services via video to individuals located in California, Hawaii, Florida, and Virginia. My therapeutic approach centers on helping clients process distressing memories by facilitating adaptive information processing. Through guided bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, clients can reprocess traumatic experiences, reducing their emotional charge and promoting integration, leading to symptom relief and improved overall well-being. EMDR aims to transform negative beliefs associated with past events and support clients in developing more adaptive coping mechanisms. My practice is grounded in the belief that each individual is unique and deserves a tailored approach to treatment. My overarching goal is to establish a therapeutic environment that empowers you to reach your full potential, rediscover your inner strengths, and develop new life skills to effectively address the challenges and symptoms impacting your well-being. Drawing from a diverse range of therapeutic schools, my approach is influenced by humanistic, person-centered, insight oriented, attachment, and multicultural perspectives. Education & Experience

I earned my doctoral degree (PhD) in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University (AIU) in San Diego, CA in 2007. My research on trauma and deafness was recognized with the esteemed F. Joseph McGuigan Dissertation Award at AIU. My dedication to advancing the field is evident through the publication of multiple research articles in peer-reviewed journals, specifically focusing on trauma and dissociation among people who are deaf. Recognized for my expertise, I have been invited to serve as a journal reviewer for various research studies on trauma, PTSD, and dissociation. Along with EMDR, I integrate evidence-based and complementary methodologies in my practice, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Somatic Experiencing (SE). As a clinician with over 15 years of experience, I uphold the highest standard of care. My commitment to ongoing learning and improvement is evident in my continuous efforts to expand and refine my knowledge base, especially as it relates to trauma informed care.

I hold memberships with several esteemed organizations, including EMDRIA, the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology (NRHSPP), the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), the San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA), the Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists (VACP), and Somatic Experiencing International.
