Approved for 6 EMDRIA Credits
When working with children, it is important to include the parent in the therapeutic process. This is especially true when working with a child, processing trauma through EMDR. The parent is an essential component for resourcing, helping the child feel safe, and supporting the child in processing. To accomplish this, the parent needs to have the capacity to support the child as they grow in the therapeutic process. This presentation will help participants understand how to invite the parent into the playroom to include the parent in all the phases of the EMDR processing. It will also assist the participant in assessing the capacity of the parent, prepping the parent for the child to process the trauma, and assessing when to refer the parent for their own therapy. It will explore play therapy techniques that can be used with the parent and the child while processing the trauma and beyond.
Presenter: Christa Phipps, Ph.D.
