As therapists begin integrating EMDR into treatment with their clients, it is not uncommon to discover a level of trauma that was not previously identified within a client. This is when it becomes necessary for a therapist to have the ability to be flexible and adaptable within the 8 phases of EMDR. Through attunement with clients, therapists can effectively utilize their clinical tools to assist in widening their client’s window of tolerance; while using containment to pace the therapeutic journey. This training provides beginning information and skill development for therapists to begin conceptualizing more complex cases as well as practical adjustments that work within the 8 phases of EMDR and align with the three phase model of trauma treatment.
