This live webinar will explore client and clinician avoidance in EMDR therapy. Targeting blocking beliefs and defenses will be taught using Jim Knipe’s EMDR Toolbox procedures. Clinician avoidance will be addressed through practice sessions with partners to deepen the learning of procedures to use with clients. Honoring the 8 Phases of EMDR, the workshop will teach specific tools focused on assisting clients in effective EMDR processing. Attunement, affect management, and processing skills will be focused around Knipe’s 5 trauma-related defenses (Avoidance, Dissociation, Idealization, Shame, and a bit on Addictions). Knipe’s Blocking Beliefs Questionnaire will be provided and an introduction to parts work in EMDR will round out this experiential workshop. Practice sessions will be in triads as clinicians work on their own avoidance, blocks, and defenses. Facilitator will assist in these sessions to deepen practical application of new skills.
