Approved for 13 EMDRIA Credits
This 2.5 day in-person training (September 19-21, 2024) combines lecture with small group practice and experiential activities utilizing play therapy, sand tray, clay and art. The presenters also show video clips and transcripts of working with small children, pre-teens and teenagers and demonstrate flexible and adaptive use of the EMDR protocol. Creative and playful approaches are needed for treating complex youth who are often hard to engage, avoidant, and resistant to trauma work and have narrow windows of tolerance for working on their past wounds. This training also expands an understanding of protective parts of self and how to engage caregivers in helping their child resolve traumatic experiences. The best standards for trauma work utilize interventions for children and teens drawn from the approaches of play therapy, attachment theory, polyvagal theory, dissociation theory and family systems theory. In addition, you’ll receive a 30-page training curriculum that contains a child/teen focused case formulation worksheet, screening tools, modified EMDR protocols, and grounding and soothing strategies.
Presenters: Annie Monaco & Ann Beckley-Forest
