The live webinar focuses primarily on how an Ecotherapy-informed lens complements the EMDR standard protocol in phases 1, 2 and beyond. During phase 1, an ecotherapy-informed lens takes into account the client’s relationship to other humans and to the land they have been raised on, considering environmental and ecological traumas such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and intergenerational racial and cultural traumas. Additionally, an Ecotherapy-informed lens considers favorite memories in nature throughout clients’ lives, which can then be utilized for preparation, resource development and stabilization during phase 4. For clients who are clinically appropriate for an outdoor setting, the calm place resource can be enhanced by holding sessions outside, making access and effectiveness of future calm place use more pronounced during Phase 2 and Phase 4 for stabilization and support. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of the field of ecotherapy along with information about how and why it can become a useful adjunct to the standard protocol of EMDR Therapy.
