Approved for 12 EMDRIA Credits

This is a review course for clinicians who have completed an EMDRIA approved basic training. It is meant as a refresher as well as to provide points of clarification and gain a better understanding of the purpose behind each part of the protocol. With this deeper understanding the clinician can tailor EMDR interventions and language to the individual client while keeping to the evidence-based protocol. EMDR is flexible and client centered yet often gets misquoted due to a lack of understanding of the main principles or a misunderstanding in the application.

This course will cover how the evolution of EMDR therapy from a desensitization technique to the evidence based full therapy approach has led to some of the common misunderstandings or limited application. The main principles of the model that informs the protocol and the main theories behind the mechanism will be reviewed. All eight phases and three prongs will be covered with suggestions for language, tips, and client videos. Working with EMDR in person as well as online will be addressed.

Presenter: Alicia Avila, LCSW
