Approved for 40 EMDRIA Credits
This in-person workshop (October 16-20, 2023) provides theoretical and practical strategies resulting from the integration of Sandtray therapy into a comprehensive EMDR treatment. This is done with the goal in mind of working more effectively with children and adolescents with complex clinical presentations. The use of Sandtray therapy will be presented throughout the eight phases of EMDR therapy. Sandtray therapy through the use of stories and symbols provides the opportunity to access implicit material, including pre-verbal trauma. In addition, it providing distance so this material can be explored, accessed and processed while preserving adequate stability of the child’s system. The distance and titration offered by Sandtray therapy gives the child and the EMDR clinician the opportunity to process traumatic material while bypassing the child’s mechanisms of adaptation. Special attention is given in this workshop to maintaining adequate adherence to the AIP model and the EMDR therapy standard procedures while honoring the essence of Sandtray therapy.
